Vitamin D and Covid Risk / Severity

DO YOU KNOW YOUR VITAMIN D LEVELS?

Research results show that sufficient Vitamin D in the body can reduce the risk of catching Covid-19 by 54%. Insufficient Vitamin D suggested a greater risk of catching Covid-19 and severity.

Boston University School of Medicine studied 234 people, 74% of them with severe Covid-19 infection and 32.8% were vitamin D sufficient. They found that only 9.7% of patients older than 40 years who were vitamin D sufficient succumbed to Covid-19, compared to 20% who had insufficient vitamin D.

Vitamin D is critical for immunity but also our mood, bones, hormones and performance. Most of us are deficient given we live in a latitude north of 30 degrees, it's poorly acquired in the diet, with sunlight on bare skin being the principal source of production.

You can check your status through testing before supplementing which is wise as it's a fat soluble vitamin so we can overdose. It's like Goldilocks, not too little and not too much. Testing is easy and inexpensive. Usually people feel a difference in their mood and energy within a couple of weeks of supplementation.
